Jury Selection Underway in Trial of Co-Defendant

Federal Judge Aileen Cannon has dismissed one basis for the federal criminal case against Donald Trump and his two co-defendants in Florida. The ruling stems from allegations that Trump showed a highly sensitive military map to an unknown individual, which prosecutors argued constituted a violation of the Espionage Act. Judge Cannon dismissed this count, finding that the prosecution had failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the claim. In a separate hearing, Judge Cannon oversaw jury selection for the trial of an Alabama man accused of obstructing justice in the investigation into the January 6th Capitol riot. The judge ordered that the names of potential witnesses be redacted from witness statements, though significant portions of the statements themselves will remain available to the jury. The judge also denied an effort by the prosecution to dismiss the classified documents case against Trump, but agreed to delete a paragraph from the superseding indictment that contained information that could potentially be used to identify confidential sources.
